Farm Accident Lawyers

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Alison Cole Agricultural farming can be a dangerous occupation. In fact, it is considered one of the most dangerous occupations in the United States. The reason farming is so dangerous is because it involves farmers working with heavy equipment and machinery, often in isolated locations, which puts the farmers at great risks of serious injury. The equipment that farmers use should be designed properly to help prevent injuries by protecting the farmers when they make a mistake. Sometimes, a tractor or other piece of farming equipment is not equipped with the proper safety precautions and warnings. This can lead to serious injuries and even death. Such accidents can seriously affect the lives of the farmer and his family. This lack of proper safety precautions can result in farmers getting crushed or entangled in the equipment, with many of them losing their limbs or parts of their bodies in the process. Farming equipment is not limited to tractors. Power drives, augers, hay bailers, power take-offs, and barn cleaners also fall into the category of farming equipment. Studies show that an estimated 500 to 600 people die every year in farm tractor related accidents. Tractor rollover accounts for a major share of the accidents. If a farming injury occurs due to faulty equipment or because the specific piece of equipment is not equipped with proper safeguards, victims are entitled to financial compensation. This is where farm accident lawyers come into the picture. Farm accident lawyers are lawyers who specialize in farm accidents caused due to faulty machinery or lack of proper safety precautions. These lawyers investigate the case and if they determine that the injury was caused by malfunctioning machinery or improper safeguards, they sue the company concerned and demand financial compensation for the farmer. This financial compensation, though it cannot take away the scars and injuries sustained as a result of the accident, can help the farmer and the members of his family rebuild their lives. If the injury was bad enough to put a stop to farming as a career, the compensation can help the farmer educate himself in a new field and get back his financial independence. What is Permax (Pergolide)?

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Robert_McKay] Robert McKay Introduction There are many drugs that have had recalls associated with them because of side effects that were unforeseen and Permax is one of these drugs. Permax, also known as pergolide in the generic sense, was a drug that had been used by millions of people across the world to treat their Parkinsons disease. It is not a cure for Parkinsons disease but rather is a treatment that was developed in order to help patients deal with some of the symptoms of Parkinsons disease. A disease that is similar to Parkinsons known as Ekboms syndrome or simply as restless leg syndrome was also treated with Permax. Between the sufferers of these two illnesses the Permax drug became very popular as a treatment until it was discovered that there were some adverse side effects to using the drug as a treatment. How Permax Works This is best demonstrated using an example. Parkinsons disease is caused by a breakdown within the central nervous system that is ultimately linked to a malfunctioning motor cortex. This malfunctioning motor cortex is not being stimulated at a level that allows the individual to have normal motor skills as well as normal speech. The reason for the lack of stimulation is that the stimulation occurs through the usage of a substance known as dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is used for this specific purpose and when there is a lack of dopamine in the system there are going to be problems with the motor processes. Permax as a drug has the ability to mimic dopamine and help restore some of that missing stimulation. This in turn will allow the individual the chance to perform with a higher level of motor skills and thus counteract to a certain extent the symptoms of their illness. It is this ability that originally resulted in Permaxs popularity up until the point where the negative effects associated with the drug were made public. The Problem with Permax The positive effects of Permax notwithstanding, there are a number of negative [http://www.schmidtandclark.com/Permax/side-effects-recall.html ] side effects that have severely decreased the popularity of the drug. Two different independent studies began the discovery by linking all pergolide drugs with different side effects related to heart valves. Heart valves are the parts of the heart that regulate the blood flow into and out of the organ as well as between the different chambers of the organ. One study found that Permax dramatically increased the chance of severe damage to these heart valves and another study found that a significant number of patients that had taken Permax or a similar pergolide drug suffered from leaky heart valves. A leaky or otherwise damaged heart valve can result in severe complications in blood flow around the body which can lead to other problems such as pulmonary hypertension, severe lethargy, poor blood flow to the extremities and even muscle death from lack of oxygenated blood. Ever since these two studies were released the popularity of Permax has been on the decline and as of right now the popularity of the drug is significantly lower than it was a few years ago. Translation and Your International E-Commerce Strategy

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Ivan Vandermerwe Most businesses realize that they are simply a click away from any corner of the globe. Well, actually two if you include the Yahoo! search a potential customer does to access your shopping cart. What most businesses, unfortunately, do not realize though, is that their shopping cart is struggling to make it to the checkout counter. Bill Dunlap, managing director of Global Reach, Inc. notes that “for every $2 million a site is doing in domestic sales, they’re leaving another $1 million on the table in international sales if they’re not making themselves easily available.” To paraphrase the above, let me draw on a quote from Willy Brandt. The former West German chancellor is reported to have once said: “If I’m selling to you, I speak your language. If I’m buying, dann muessen Sie Deutsch sprechen (then you must speak German).” In economics this is referred to as opportunity cost -the cost of something in terms of an opportunity foregone. The opportunity cost of not speaking “German” is a whopping 50%! This simple truth is supported by statistics. Donald A. DePalma reported in a study conducted for Forrester Research that “Visitors linger twice as long as they do at English-only URLs; business buyers are three times more likely to buy if addressed in their own language; and customer service costs drop when instructions are displayed in the users language.” (Donald A. DePalma, Strategies for Global Sites, 1998). Another Forrester Research report, quoted in an article titled “Reasons for Success in International E-Commerce” (webpronews.com) provides statistics that indicate “over 55% of the online world accesses the Internet from countries where English is not the native language.” The message is loud and clear: Do not assume that there is no reason to translate your marketing materials or that English is used in other countries! To be sure, English is the lingua franca of the world, and many people do have the ability to read English. But, faced with a choice, would you pull out your wallet for a company that caters to your needs in your non-native language, or your native language? If translation is not part of your international e-commerce strategy, then you may be leaving money on the table! And, if you see the truth in this message, you have a couple of options available: you can develop an in-house translation capability, or you can commission a professional translation service to translate your marketing materials. Developing an in-house translation capability is prohibitively expensive, not to mention that it is a long term effort. An appropriate analogy to illustrate this point is that of an IT department. Buying translation, however, can be overwhelming with all the technical jargon, and frustrating with all the endless marketing hype and “mission statements” that are thrown at you. Fact is, the basics of purchasing translation are easy. Read on. Your starting point should be the clarification of your translation project requirements. Consider:Whether your marketing materials are for internal consumption (including partners) or external consumption? Whether cost is more important or quality is more important? What is the time frame for your project? What are your ongoing (long-term) professional translation service needs?By clarifying project requirements, you are establishing the framework to answer the 2 most important questions that will determine the success of your translation project. Namely, what is the right type of translation, and what is the right professional translation service for your translation project? There are two types of translation: Machine translation (MT) Human translationIn machine translation, a human translator supports the machine. In other words, a computer program translates the source text (i.e. the “from” language), with the resultant target text (i.e. the “to” language) then being edited by a qualified human translator, if it is edited at all. Machine translation (MT) is employed for “gisting” or, to get the general meaning (gist) of a document which can be useful when marketing material is only for internal consumption. Is machine translation right for your marketing materials? “Free online translations, is, well…free-the cost is right, but can you live with the quality?” is a short, informative works on machine translation (MT). Read it before continuing. Consider this recent headline from the Yahoo! Odd News section (2005-07-05)-”The Wurst museum in the world?” You guessed it-it is not a bad museum but one dedicated to…German sausages! If your marketing materials are rich and descriptive, and for external consumption, then machine translation (MT) is not an option. Commission a professional translation service, and put human translators to work on your marketing materials. Selecting the right professional translation service can be just as frustrating as selecting the right type of translation for your project. Do you go with a professional translation service provided by a translation company, a translation agency or a free-lance translator? Review the requirements of your translation project. Now ask yourself “What is the right professional translation service?” “Free Online Translations Guide-Professional Translation Service” provides a check list that is helpful in determining what translation service should be entrusted with your marketing materials. While the list is not exhaustive, it will guarantee that you get the most value for your investment in translation in terms of cost and quality. Establishing a criteria list provided the basis for determining what the right type of translation, and what the right professional translation service, is for your translation project. Now, before you hit the search engines, guarantee the success of your translation project by taking a few more minutes to truly prepare (peace of mind; priceless!). Read “Buying Online Translations Tips and Techniques.” And that is it-it is that simple! Translating marketing materials will ensure that your international e-commerce strategy speaks “German,” will ensure that your shopping cart makes it to the checkout counter, and will ensure that no money is left on the table. Quick Tips For Getting Started In Stained Glass

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By David Roth Starting in stained glass can be a fun and rewarding hobby. It’s a chance to express your artistic side, discover a new talent, and may even develop into a profitable side business for you. Stained glass design and installation can be extremely profitable because its such a niche business that so few are involved in. Whether you’re planning on just developing a hobby or perhaps take it to the next level, there are some basic tools that you will need to start your journey. A good place to start would be to buy a beginner stained glass kit. These typically include an inexpensive selection of beginner tools that will get you started with your first project. Like anything, a lot of people will not make it past their first project so its a good idea to start small. This will give you the base of tools that you will need in order to get started without a lot of money. As you progress, you will probably want to invest in more powerful commercial tools. Typically, artists will choose to purchase a stained glass grinder for one of their initial purchases. Grinders are used to smooth out rough edges on the stained glass itself. Its a nice tool to have, but you’ll know when you’re ready for it. A good idea also is probably to get involved in a stained glass glass. Check out your local community colleges or glass studio for class times and information. These are a great way to get the basics down and to get some teaching from a professional. Its probably the best investment you can make into your new hobby! Dave Roth runs http://www.scstainedglass.com which is a site devoted to the stained glass arts. The site includes discount stained glass supplies, Gryphon stained glass grinders, as well as free stained glass patterns. He also features a free newsletter which is available monthly which features free stained glass designs, tutorials, as well as discounts on stained glass tools and supplies. Is That Love In Their Eyes - Eight Ways You Can Interpret An Online Dating Photo

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Cheryl Ashbrook If you have started the New Year with a desire to find new love them maybe you have decided to give online dating a try? If you have glanced through some of the online dating sites then you’ll know by now that there are an awful lot of people out there so you’ve probably decided to do what most of us do and look at the photos first! In this article we discuss how to interpret those online dating photos and maybe give you some hints about what you should consider about you own one too! What no picture? If a profile doesn’t have a picture then it could mean that the person is just shy but in reality this isn’t that likely as everyone knows that you significantly increase your chances of success if you add a photo to your dating profile. If it’s a guy then chances are that he doesn’t want to be recognised, this could be because he’s embarrassed but it could also be because he’s married, so it’s worth being a little wary. If it’s a girl then she could also be married but it’s also quite likely that she doesn’t like the way she looks. Women tend to be much more self conscious than men so bear this in mind, however if her description says she’s great looking then that is a contradiction too far in my opinion. Out of focus / fuzzy shots; there really is no excuse for this! Either they are too lazy to get a decent picture taken, which in these days of digital cameras is hardly difficult, or they almost certainly have something to hide. Either way, lazy or secretive, they are probably not worth the effort unless you check them out very carefully. Photos with people cut out; this is a sure sign that there was a partner in the shot. It’s highly likely that the partner is now an ex as only a fool would take a picture of themselves with their partner, cut them out and put it on a dating site! However, as above, this is incredibly lazy and may be something you want to check out further. Group shot photos; can you tell which one is the person in the profile? This is not only lazy; it’s inconsiderate to the mates in the photo who may not want their picture on a dating site. As a secondary photo a group shot can be ok, especially if it ties up with an interest in their written profile, but not as the main photo. Bare chests or glamour type shots; this person is only interested in one thing and it’s probably themselves unless you are on an adult dating site! Inconsistent images; if there is more than one photo and the person looks different in each of them then beware; they are probably not that up to date. Hair does not grow and change into five different styles over a few months. Sure she could have had her hair cut recently but either she liked it, in which case all her photos would be of the new hair style, or she hates it, in which case they’ll all be of the old one. Body Language; an open posture and a smiling face are the most attractive features any of us have and they will jump out in a crowd of dating profile photos. If someone has their arms crossed or are scowling then they are probably nervous, uncomfortable or cross. What is in the background? You can sometimes read a lot into someone’s lifestyle and age from the background of the shot or the clothes they wear. Don’t take these too literally as some people are pretty clued up about profile photos and may have spent hours selecting the perfect clothes and backdrop, but then that in itself tells you that either they care. By far the best dating profiles include the following photos; one clear head and shoulders shot where they are smiling, or at least look happy and relaxed. One full length shot and maybe one action or interest orientated shot (this is me on holiday in Venice for example will tell you a lot about the person). Finally, remember to read the profile in light of the picture and vice versa. If someone says they look awful in pictures then they probably do and will be even better in real life. If they clearly state their age but the photo looks younger then it is probably recent and they look good for their age! If they state their age and the look ten years older then they either are lying or really do look bad. And do remember to check out the clothes, you can often judge someone’s age roughly by the clothes they wear take a look at your friends and work colleagues and you’ll probably be able to see what I mean! Searching for Marlena’s Cookery Book

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Justine Eaglestone Searching for cookery books on the net can have the same anticipatory pleasure as waiting for a meal in a fine restaurant. Some years ago I unexpectedly came across a rack of books in a health shop. On it I found 200+ Vegetarian Pasta Recipes by Marlena Spieler, a Californian living in London. She is a leading food writer in the USA. Her pasta book has proved to be delightful asset to a home where the resident vegetarian believes that vegetarianism is synonymous with consuming durum wheat. Writers of cookery books can take a tip from Marlena: she gives the ingredients in Imperial and Metric in a column on the left of the page and in real-life, or American measures (cups, spoons and bunches) in another column. These twin columns lie atop the method, which is given in point form. It is a very neat, very convenient and very simple way to present a recipe. Marlenas pasta book became a hearty staple of our rather vast bookrack in the kitchen. The book is showing signs of over-indulgence now: loosening pages, herb-and-olive oil splatters. (Tonight its Paglia e Fieno al Aurora for supper, otherwise known as Yellow and Green Pasta in a Creamy Tomato Sauce with Mushrooms and Peas.) Many thanks to Marlena. She writes in such a charming way and with such magnificent enthusiasm for food that I decided to try and locate other cookery books she has written as well. These include The Flavour of California and the Flavours of Mexico. But the one that attracted me was Hot and Spicy. I live in a place where chilli bushes enjoy the climate. In my herb garden grow jalapenos, habaneros, birds-eye and a number of other chilli bushes that are nameless to me now, which produces great handfuls of fruit at harvest time. Sure, I have cookery books involving chillies, but I was looking for something more integrated. A comprehensive search for Hot and Spicy on aBillionbooks booksites turned up a couple of copies, all of them too expensive for my taste. I created a want in Alibris and sat back to wait. In a day or two Alibris told me it had found the copy priced right. I ordered and waited with mounting excitement for it to arrive. Hot and Spicy: Unusual, Innovative Recipes from the Worlds Fiery Cuisines turned out to be delightfully funky. You dont instinctively know to make Tropical Mango and Macadamia Salsa with Tomatoes and Lime (as made in the Caribbean, California and Hawaii). This cookery book not only teaches you that it exists but how to make it.This salsa is served on a hearty, meaty fish, such as freshly grilled tuna. For the benefit of the vegetarian in the house it is marvelous on baked sweet potatoes too. Hey, heres Gratin of Macaroni, Cheddar Cheese and Chilli. Marlena reckons its recipe in this collection she has prepared the most, over and over again. Maybe well skip the Paglia e Fieno al Aurora and do Chillimac. Thank goodness for cookery books! Wedding Invitations! Get It Right, From The Start!

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Carmel Baird You have decided on your wedding ceremony and your wedding reception, everything is booked. Now is the time to think about your wedding invitations. Do you have a theme for your wedding? Or are you just going with a color scheme? Either way, this will help you decide on the style of wedding invitation. You should have a list of guests, family and friends, that you wish to invite. Having said that, you also need to decide if it will be an adults only wedding or if you will be including all the family, adults and children. You can save money with the cost of the invitations if you are including the whole family as smaller children can be included on the invitation sent to the parents, adult children sometimes like their own invitation. With computers these days, many invitations are designed and printed on the home computer. There are some wonderful papers and styles and even computer programs especially for just this. The tone of the invitation will follow the tone of the wedding. A more formal wedding will have a more formal wedding invitations, a more relaxed, casual style wedding will have a more relaxed style of invitation. If you dont want to try the computer invitations, another option is the specialty packs available from stationery suppliers. They can include the invitations, place cards for the wedding reception, thank you notes and envelopes and matching stationery for personal notes etc. The next option is the printer, you can find these normally in the yellow pages and often times they will be listed under Weddings. Make your list, phone for appointments and get your quotes. Whatever way you decide to go, you will need the wording for the invitations. Basically it is the four Ws, Who, What, Where and When. Who– is doing the inviting, this will be the name of the host and/or hostess What– is announcing the celebration of the marriage of… Where– Is the place where the ceremony and reception will take place When–is the date the happy event will occur. Then comes the RSVP by a certain date. When you think about it, you are inviting someone to an event, your wedding, you want them to know who is inviting them, you want them to know where it is and when it is. There may be those you are only inviting to the wedding ceremony, then there will be the guests you wish to celebrate with you at both the ceremony and the wedding reception and then the guests who will be only invited to the wedding reception. So your invitations could be for three different events. You will need three different lists. Browse other wedding invitations, you will find wedding etiquette books or online sites that will help you. Start a file of the ones you like the best, then make your decision. Six weeks before the wedding date is a good time to send the invitations out. This is considered enough time for your friends and family to organize to have the date free. Always check with the wedding caterers and/or reception venue as to when they require the definite guest numbers and remember to include the bridal party and immediate families. When ordering invitations specially printed, order extra in case you make some mistakes when writing them out. While we are on the writing out of invitations, calligraphers will do this for you and give your invitations that old world feel, this of course, depends on the theme of your wedding too. In some cultures, it is the tradition to include the RSVP and return addressed and postage stamped envelope with the invitation. This is an extra cost and not always necessary today. If you include your phone number as well as your address for the RSVP, then including the stamped, addressed envelope may be an unnecessary added cost. Remember, inviting someone to your most special day, your wedding day, will make them feel so special. Motivations Are A Key To Happiness As A Volunteer!

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Devorah Vineburg Volunteering was a way for me to spend more time with my son. (scoutmaster) As a teenager, I was asked to help by volunteering with autistic children and my church. I’m glad that I did. It helped me decide what I wanted to do with my life, I want to become a therapist. (graduate student) I thought that I just might make some valuable contacts if I helped out at the Arts Association. (artist) We all have motivations for everything we do. Motivation is not a bad word. It does not mean having an ulterior motive. It just means coming to realize the deep down reasons you have for wanting to get involved in something. Why do YOU volunteer? Do you like feeling useful and helping others? Do you want to learn a new skill? Do you want to try out a new career experience? Do you want to make new friends and meet new people? These are all good motivations. Realizing why you are involved in volunteer activities can help you find those types of projects that will meet your expectations and goals. Like Feeling Useful and Helping Others? Try a volunteer activity that involves advancing a cause such as healthy living, community organization or working with children, people with disabilities or new immigrants. Want to Learn A New Skill? What about working with writing a newsletter, building a house with Habitat for Humanity, or acting in a community play? Want to Explore A New Career? Boxelder Bugs (Maple Bugs) Invade Homes in Fall

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Jack DeAngelis Boxelder bugs, sometimes called maple bugs, are relatively large insects, about 1/2 long, dark gray in color with red markings on their backs. The bugs are harmless. What makes them remarkable is their tendency to congregate on certain houses in the fall of the year, often in enormous numbers. It truly seems like an invasion — especially the first time it happens. Here’s what’s going on. Boxelder bugs (see a color image at www.LivingWithBugs.com/boxelder.html) have one generation a year. Eggs are laid in early summer on maple trees (boxelder is a type of maple).Eggs hatch and the young nymphs feed on maple tree leaves during the summer. They do no apparent harm to the trees. The insects reach adulthood in fall and can fly. Adults abandon the trees on which they developed in search of a place to overwinter. Many insects overwinter. It is not really a state of hibernation, or diapause, but rather simply an inactive stage brought on by low temperature. Once warmed the insects resume activity. Insects seek protected places in which to overwinter. Fall migrating boxelder bugs are attracted to large trees with dense, evergreen foliage like cedars. Trees with deeply fissured bark also are selected. Both must appear to be good overwintering sites. A single large tree might attract hundreds, or thousands, of boxelder bugs from the surrounding area. These bugs are strong fliers so may travel miles from the maple tree on which they developed. We now have a large tree with perhaps thousands of overwintering boxelder bugs — so far so good. Let’s put this tree, full of bugs, near the sunny, southwest side of a house. When the house siding heats up during the day all of a sudden the nice warm house seems like a better place to overwinter than the tree. Presto, the bugs move en mass to the house. Imagine, a thousand, or more (seems like millions!), 1/2 bugs congregating on the outside of your house, around doors, windows and on siding. This actually happens to many people each fall, year after year. What to do. First realize that these bugs are harmless. They don’t bite or sting, won’t hurt your house nor will they set up permanent residence. But even people who know all this freak out when confronted with all these bugs. Here are some suggestions. The most important thing is to prevent the bugs from getting indoors. If they do gain entry they will likely be around until spring. Repair window screens, caulk cracks around window and door frames and screen soffit vents. Next, wash down aggregating masses of bugs with water spray from a garden hose then clean the siding with soapy water from a hose-end sprayer. A weak solution of laundry detergent is fine for this application. There is some evidence that washing the siding helps to discourage other bugs from congregating. Don’t use insecticidal sprays. Insecticides don’t work well on these semi-dormant insects and can be messy and dangerous. You may need to repeat this procedure every few days until the number of new bugs starts to drop. On occasion large numbers of bugs will get into the attic or exterior wall voids of a house. Again, these insects cause no real harm but may be a nuisance. They will find a way into the home’s interior on warm winter days — probably the day of your dinner party. In this case it may be necessary to treat the attic and walls with insecticidal dust. Bugs found crawling around indoors should be removed with a vacuum cleaner. Don’t reach for the can of insecticide! You may have concluded that the solution to this invasion problem is to remove the big tree. Sometimes this works but sometimes it does not. Sometimes the big tree is in your neighbor’s yard.
